You can you add diatomaceous earth to a pool filter that uses large paper filters to increase filter efficiency. Right now even with a clarifier the filter still misses lots of little stuff. We are having a hard time keeping the algaea out even with high chlorine and running of the pump. Except for the recurringalgaea we are fighting everything else is int he right balance. We have even added algaecide The representative at Leslies says we have a problem because paper filters don't work. This is a 10,000 gallon above ground pool. It has a large filter that is about 18-22 inches high.
