Question:

Dice lottery UK scam?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I got an email that opened with the following:

We are pleased to announce you as one of the 3 lucky winners in the 6 DICE LOTTERY UK draw held on 7th of June 2008.

It went on to say that I'd won two million pounds, and had 10 days to claim my winnings.

Anyone else received anything like this?

I know it's probably one of those Nigerian Lottery scams, but what if it's for real?

I thought I'd better check it out before responding.

Can anyone help?

  1. This is a SCAM. The below links confirm various email scams hitting the internet. There is also an online form for the reporting of such. - (with links for your own country.) This site also gives excellent advice on what steps you can take to achieve a spam free inbox :

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Please remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

  2. Everyone wants easy money. But if you didn't buy at least a ticket ,how you can win?

The sad reality is the spam plagued the Internet. The story they use to convince you to run is getting more and more believable.

Even me it's happened to think for a second" What if.."

Be smart and stay safe on line.

    Delete it without regrets.

  3. Chances are that it is a scam, but why not reply and find out?

    - Don't send any money

    - Don't give any personal information that they could use in ID theft (Mother's maiden name, your date of birth, etc)

    - Don't give them your bank account number

    - Don't phone any numbers starting 08, or 09.

    - Be warned about meeting up with them in person - not so bad in UK public spaces, but people have been kidnapped for ransom in Nigeria when they have gone to 'collect' their winnings.

Instead, ask them questions - how did you come to be entered in the draw? How do they arrange payment?

In the event that they do provide satisfactory answers, then open a bank account especially for this transaction and give them this bank acc number / sort code (this is so that they cannot empty your main bank account).

Do not pay them any fees, if they say any are required, tell them to take in out of your winnings!

Oh, and if it is genuine, all I have to say is, remember me ;)

  5. You can't win anything you didn't enter. So if you entered the Dice Lottery UK Draw, then maybe. But I'm almost 100% sure this is a scam. Delete the e-mail and carry on with your life, you ain't getting rich today (sorry couldn't resist it).
