d**k Norman and Horia Tecau win doubles title at PBZ Zagreb Indoors
Second seeded pair of Belgium’s d**k Norman and Romania’s Horia Tecau, destroyed the first seed Spanish pair of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, in an easy straight sets 6-3, 6-4 victory in PBZ Zagreb Indoors doubles final on
6thFebruary.
Both pairs were in great form from the start of the tournament. In the first round, second seeds bested Ivo Karlovic and Dusan Vemic in a tough three set match. They won the second round with a walk over victory against Arnaud
Clement and Christopher Kas. In the semi finals, they defeated third seeds S.Aspelin and Julian Knowle with an easy two sets victory.
On the otherhand, tournament’s no.1 pair surpassed Croatians, Nikola Mektic and Ivan Zovko in tough match of three sets. In the quarter-finals, they overpowered Israelis, Jonathan Erlic and Andy Ram, in straight sets. They triumphed
over the Slovakians, Filip Polasek and Igor Zelenay, in the semi-finals in a tough three set to reach the final spot. Thus, the no.1 seeds had a tough journey before they reached final while Norman and Tecau pair made to the final spot easily.
Norman and Tecau won the first set in a convincing way by showing their magnificent skills and forms. After the score was levelled at 3-3, second seeds got on fire and won the next three games by holding on to their serves and
by breaking the Spaniards’ serve, sealed the set with 6-3 victory. Their service point winning percentage was only 74 percent and return points winning percentage was 44 percent in contrast with their opponent’s 56 percent and 26 percent respectively. They
eased into the second set striking only one ace.
The Belgian-Romanian pair started the second set with same momentum. But the top seeds roared back with same intensity. Both sides were in awesome form and with a superb display of tennis they levelled the score at 4-4. After this
Norman and Tecau got the break of the serve which lead in them winning the set 6-4. Both pairs played their best and Spaniard’s, Granollers and Lopez, did manage to save break points once but the second time they failed which led to their downfall. Overall
in the second or the final set, second seeded pair, Norman and Tecau had 91 percent of service point winning percentage while the number one seeds, Granollers and Lopez only had 64 percent. Their return point winning percentage was also very high with 36 percent
in contrast with Spaniards’ 9 percent only.
