d**k Turpin claims the Bet365 Mile impressively: Horse Racing news
The opening day of the Sandown meeting featured some of the best racehorses from around the United Kingdom competing against each other in the prestigious races. One of these races was the Bet365 Mile, which was claimed by the champion racehorse d**k Turpin.
This was a Group 2 event that was run over a distance of 1 mile and was contended by racehorses of age four and above.
The winning colt is the trainee of the famed trainer Richard Hannon. It was evident throughout the race that the racehorse was determined to take home the trophy for his trainer as he went on to hold the field and produced a spectacular performance. d**k
Turpin was sent off to contend this event as a 8-13 favourite.
This is the fourth time that Hannon has been successful in the race. The previous three were won by his favourite colt Paco Boy, who bagged the trophy back-to-back in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the event, and Major Cadeaux who won the race in 2008.
d**k Turpin finally showed his talent and potential as it was rightly overshadowed by his stable mate Canford Cliff in the last racing season. Nonetheless, the racehorse showed renewed vigour and spirit at the start of the race, and eventually did well to
win it.
d**k Turpin's jockey, Richard Hughes, who played an equally vital role in the win was approached by reporters after the race. Hughes said, “The world is his oyster now. d**k Turpin is more straightforward than Canford Cliffs; you can put him anywhere in
the race. He’s definitely better now and there’s more to come. Canford Cliffs need to pull his socks up.”
One of the other hot favourites for the race, Highland Knight, struggled in the field and could not get himself into the top three places. He only managed to finish the race in the middle of the five contenders.
According to reports, most of the competitors seemed to be intimidated by the pressure that developed during the race, but that was not the case with the winner.
