Dickson Etuhu pens Fulham contract extension
Dickson Etuhu has decided to extend his stay with English Premier League side Fulham after penning a three-year extension to his current contract.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder’s deal at Craven Cottage had been due to run out at the end of the season but he has extended his stay in London despite being linked with a move to join former manager Roy Hodgson at Liverpool over the summer.
A statement on Fulham’s official website said that: “Fulham Football Club is delighted to confirm that Dickson Etuhu has signed a contract extension with the club that will see the midfielder remain at the Cottage until the summer of 2014.”
Strong partnership
Etuhu joined Fulham from Sunderland in 2008 for a fee of around £1.5m and quickly created a strong partnership in the middle of the pitch with captain Danny Murphy.
The 6ft 2in mindfielder scored his first goal for Fulham in 2009 against his former club Manchester City and was an integral part of the team which reached the UEFA Europa League final under Hodsgon last season. Etuhu has already scored his first goal of the 2010-11 season after netting against Blackpool in a 2-2 EPL draw.
He started his career with City but made just 11 league starts for the club before he was sold to Preston North End in 2002. His strong form in helping Preston reach the Football League Championship play-off final in the 2004-05 season attracted the attention of other clubs, and he moved to Norwich City in January 2006. In the summer of 2007, Etuhu signed for EPL side Sunderland for a fee of £1.5m.
Etuhu has featured regularly for Nigeria since making his international debut in October 2007. He has played in two African Cup of Nations tournaments (in 2008 and 2010) and was also involved in his country’s 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign in South Africa.
