Dicky Palyama slays Lukas Schmidt in Men’s Singles semi-final at Yonex Belgian International 2012
Netherlands’ Dicky Palyama defied all odds and secured his berth in Men’s Singles title match after putting an end to the winning run of Germany’s Lukas Schmidt in semi-final showdown at the Yonex Belgian International 2012 on Saturday, September 15, at
Leuven, Belgium.
The higher ranked Palyama, who was the seventh seeded player in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, played at his best speed against his German rival and easily proved his mettle by ending up the contest in just 34 minutes.
Dutch shuttler remained in tremendous form in all of his matches in the Belgian International and he continued his impressive run in the semi-final clash against Lukas and won it in a lopsided fashion with a wonderful margin on the board.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Lukas was shocked with the fast and attacking play of his rival and failed to put up strong resistance.
The German shuttler played well in both games but not enough to create pressure on his opponent and crashed out without winning any set.
In the first set, Palyama was quite relaxed but focused on court in opening rallies and remained equal to his rival until 6-6.
At this stage, Palyama played to his maximum speed and played attacking badminton which helped him to take an 11-8 lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Dutch shuttler remained consistent in his dominating play as he spared no chance for his German opponent to fight back in the game.
Palyama remained focused on court in the concluding half of opening game and took it by a 21-13 score on the board.
The second game was completely different when Lukas showed his brilliance and took advantage at the early stage by playing to his full potential.
Lukas manipulated all loopholes of his rival by gearing up his speed at net and took an 11-7 lead until the break.
After the interval, Palyama changed his tactics and started to play fast badminton while remaining focused. He was aggressive on court and managed to stop the progress of his rival by reaching at 16-16.
At this crucial stage, the Dutch shuttler surprised everyone by playing flawless game and he took five points in a row to end up the set with a comfortable score of 21-16.
Palyama emerged as the winner against Lukas in this semi-final clash with a convincing 21-13 and 21-16 score on the board.
