Dicky Pride finishes strong at the HP Byron Nelson Championship – Golf News
Dicky Pride carded a three-under par 67 in the final round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship to take the second position at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas on Sunday, May 20, 2012.
Pride started his round one stroke behind Jason Dufner, which ended with the same position on the leaderboard.
Through 14 holes, he was even-par for the round after carding two birdies and two bogeys. Thereafter, he did something that threatened Dufner on top the leaderboard.
He went for three consecutive birdies starting from the 15th hole and shared the top position on the leaderboard.
On the final hole of the tournament, he managed to record a par shot and waited for Dufner to finish off his round too.
However, his hopes of going into the playoffs shattered when Dufner made an amazing 25-foot birdie to record the second PGA Tour victory career of his career.
“Yeah, it was fun,” he said. “Apparently that was not a very difficult putt on 18, from the long right! (Chuckles.) It was downhill about a cup and a half out, and I made it, and I was pretty happy about that. Jason made a great putt. He's a really good
player”.
Pride also praised Dufner’s philanthropic attitude as he was among the players to participate in the pro-am golf event in Tuscaloosa that was organized to help the victims of the tornado.
“I think we're all seeing that, we've known that, now he's just winning tournaments, but I have a lot of respect for Jason,” he said. “When we had our pro-am in Tuscaloosa for tornado relief, he was the first guy. He said, ‘I'm coming, I'm bringing a team
and how can I help,’ and that says a lot about him”.
According to Pride, the putter is his strength in the game of golf, which has helped him in each of the event he plays.
He believes that he is not as good with the putter as he has been in the past few months. Yet, he was happy to record the third top-seven finishes of the season and confident to record his first win soon.
