Yeah, I know thumbs are not fingers. But I'm still counting them!

  1. I doubt thats what you mean, that would be 11 fingers & 2 thumbs. Either way even 9 fingers sounds creepy. Add that to the attitude she supposedly had, no wonder they thought she was a witch.

  2. Most of what we know about Queen Anne Boleyn was written after her death. The rumor about her having six fingers on one hand was started by a Catholic man who wrote about her after she was dead and buried. Anne was no friend to the Papists at this time, and she was considered a witch to them. Anne was for the reformation of the church. This man wrote this claim in an attempt to be cruel, and unfortunately it did work.

  3. That what history says. It isn't all that uncommon - even today, children are sometimes born with an extra digit. It can usually be snipped off because it often isn't functional.

  4. No.  For one thing, a woman with six fingers would have been considered to be some sort of witch, or at least cursed, and would NEVER have had a chance to become Queen with superstitious Henry! A lot of those rumors came up AFTER she died, as if to reinforce her wickedness.  Nothing was said by anyone about the Queen having an extra finger, and you can better bet that it would have been a fascinating tidbit for many ambassadors, etc., to report on.

There is some evidence that she may have had an extra fingernail on her little finger, which may have accounted for reports of an extra finger.

  5. apparently yes, though she is not painted that way in portraits of the time.

  6. It is believed so, yes: http://www.nellgavin.com/boleyn_facts/

  7. don't know, but maybe she can be looked up on the net

  8. She didn't have six fingers.  She had one withe a regulat nail on the end and another nail on the side.  She tried to hide it all her life.

  9. That is very well possible. I had a boss who had six fingers. It happens. Not often, but it happens.

  10. Having six fingers on one hand, although uncommon, is actually the dominant trait over 5.

  11. Many of these stories had their roots in anti-Anglican works written by Roman Catholics. It was reported by some that Anne suffered from polydactyly, having six fingers on her left hand. Others claimed she had a birthmark or mole on her neck that was at all times hidden by a jewel. Although the first legend is popular, there is no contemporary evidence to support it. None of the many eyewitness accounts of Anne Boleyn’s appearance—some of them meticulously detailed—mention any deformities, let alone a sixth finger. Moreover, as physical deformities were generally interpreted as a sign of evil, it is difficult to believe that Anne Boleyn would have gained Henry's romantic attention had she possessed any.[79]
