Did Anyone hear what Env. Min. Baird said?

He said that global warming means more heat related deaths than cold related deaths. Does this make sense to you? Couldn't thawing ice present more dangers.

  1. I didn't hear what he said, but I suspect he meant the increasing number of heat related deaths (e.g. heat stroke) will exceed the number of cold related deaths.  The melting ice is a slow process, and while it will damage coast lines, people will generally have time to move away.


  2. I dont think that is correct.  You cant calculate the amount of deaths from climate change, whether it goes up or down.

    Historically, cold spells have caused many moe deaths than warming.  The people that die heat related deaths dont know how to get somewhere cool and drink enough water.

    Prolonged cold climates cause new diseases to emerge, due to the migration of its carriers.  Technically hot and cold can both cause disease to spread, but historically, more plagues have happened during cold climates.

    thawing ice happens every year because of the seasons.. so I dont buy that.
