  1. "The NHL has decided octopus twirling doesn't fit in with league image, or something to that effect. The Wings have been told by the league that if Al Sobotka (or anyone else) twirls the octopus that's thrown onto the ice before playoff games, it'll cost the team $10,000."

they haven't started to fine the detroit fans for throwing the squid though...and they can't stop them...hahaha beer slayer, why would he go to all that effort to stop a hockey/team tradition. what is he being harrassed by peta. pffttt....that would be almost as dumb as fining nba players who don't wear suits before games. lol. i know they're all rich but what if they're poor/bankrupt/had a house or hotel fire. leave it be.

i feel bad for the squid (lol dewman. i meant octopus)...but i also understand traditions.

and although bettman also tried to take out violence from the nhl, hahah i'm sure the flyers fans had orange t-shirts provided from the organization with the word "vengance now" which was also their site logo. he can't even keep his own people under his thumb. long live don bettman.

  2. I don't think you can get fined for tossing an octopus on the ice - but you should be careful about when you do it - otherwise I think your team gets a delay of game penalty.  The fish shop in Royal Oak suggests doing it only after the national anthem.

Since Al Sabotka seems to be the only guy who swings an octopus when he picks it up off the ice, I thought it was a bit off to rule a fine - seemed kind of personal.  Apparently you get less goo from an octopus if it's been boiled.... ew.

  3. Erica, here here.

(and to Dewman, thanks for doing us a favor. i was wondering how long it would take for someone to say something. it reminds me of all the posts that try to pluralize "octupus", and the hilarious results you get. some sound like a certain James Bond movie)

    here's to sushi!

  4. Keeping a tradition alive is well worth paying some stupid fine.

  5. ITS NOT AN EFFIN SQUID!!!!!

Its an OCTOPUS.  Can you say OCTOPUS????

That's like calling the Penguins, the Cormorants.

  6. Yes, that dwarf did. But the NHL didn't ruin the tradition, the fans are keeping it alive. God bless them. I hope the NHL lets them keep it going.

Oh, and I don't feel bad for the octopus... because IT'S AN OCTOPUS. Lol. Octopus don't seem to be an endangered species. Besides, are those not octopus that were probably bought at a seafood market and were probably already dead? There's no reason to worry about PETA sticking their noses into this. Anyone ever had baby octopus at a sushi bar? Yummm.

  7. Hey man...think of the poor squid. How would you like it if I tossed your dog on to the ice?

*** LAE...He CAN stop them. He can give a penalty to the home team if it continues. If that doesn't stop the fans he can order a closed game in which the the teams play to an empty arena.
