  1. Calzaghe won because he got more punches in. Hopkins was difficult to fight because he kept going in with his head everytime Joe was at him. I think a UK Ref would have been doing something about that.

On balance i think Joe deserved to win because he did more boxing and that is what it`s about.

  2. Hopkins only won the first round. The knockdown was a good punch, but Calzaghe doesn't go down without the extra shove. It was clear that Hopkins' strategy was to load up for one big punch to end the fight because he knew he couldn't win on points.

  3. JOE CALZAGHE SUCKS!

  4. No (to being "lucky", yes to deserving the win).  The knockdown was a flash knockdown, and even while he was going to the ground, Calzaghe still had his wits about him and covered up when he saw Hopkins moving forward.  That was not a big deal, other than costing him a point.

Hopkins is very cagy, and was able to slow down the pace early on by firing the straight right down the pipe, lunging in while doing so and grabbing Joe's arms.

Calzaghe was able to time that from the mid rounds onwards, so was able to step back and keep his hands free.

Hopkins hit harder with his shots, Calzaghe went with more arm punches to keep the work rate out of Hopkins' comfort zone and to connect more on the cagey vet who was constantly changing angles on him.

Simply put, Joe outworked Hopkins, and landed so many more punches, that it outweighed the difference in power behind the shots.

Joe won, in my opinion, a very close decision, which is exactly what the judges gave him.

No luck involved there.  Having now fought the very difficult Hopkins, I'd guess that Calzaghe would have better success if they met again.

  5. Not at all, watch the fight.

Hopkins was done by the 4th. Joe wouldn't let up on him for a second, he wore Hopkins out and Hopkins was trying every trick in the book to get himself a rest. He dove in for the clinch, locked arms to hold the clinch when Joe would try to pull away, and then he put on one heck of an act that bought him a 5 min break.. which didnt even help him.

By the last 4 rounds B-Hop was throwing windmills. He lost all his snap and all his accuracy.

  6. Even if Hopkins was floored 10 times in that fight, he will still say that he was the better fighter. Calzaghe did deserve to win, and to tell you that im not bias, i will tell you that Mayweather deserved to win against Hatton becuase he simply wasnt good enough, also he had to move up a weight.

Calzaghe was knocked down, but it didnt exactly look like it was becuase he was hurt or knocked out. Everyone needs to face it, Hopkins lost becuase he stepped up to a challenge that wasnt going to go his way. Calzaghe had a long break, and trained hard and was ready.

  7. Calzaghe won 8 out of 12 rounds. The last half of the fight was dominated by him . Hopkins was once a great fighter  but sadly he cant accept that he was beaten. He is just upset that it was by a brit, and even worse for him a White brit

  8. I'm a Welshman and I thought it was a draw.

If he fights Roy Jones Jr then he will lose, he should retire now.

  9. it wasn't the best display from calzaghe and i thought it was a draw, okay i had a bet on for a draw but even without the bet i would still say it was a draw.

  10. No Calzaghe outboxed for most of the fight.I just think joe was caught of guard by a straight right.

Joe came back like a true champ.

Bernard should retire he fell to the ground twice claiming low blows i would say he wanted a rest.

Whats next for joe?Pavlick or rjj?

  11. Probably deserved to win a good fight but it was no classic performance

  12. listened on the radio.. didn't watch.. but from what i was hearing Calzaghe would have been lucky to draw

  13. he was lucky because he was not american or black - there you go - make your excuses spin doctors and biggots - your question is a statement - like a thesis statement - put together to get your desired answers - that he was lucky and H Hop got Bopped good - thats reality

  14. tough one,   calzaghe threw more shots ( many of witch missing ) and hopkins was backing up all nite countering calzaghe`s wild misses- hopkins landed the more telling blows i think but calzaghe was more agressive but i think what did hopkins was he was retreating mostly & holding on all the time slowing calzaghe down & makeing it messy,  i recot if the ref would have deducted a point early for holding then calzaghe would have stopped him

  15. Even in the few rounds Calzaghe lost, he still landed more punches than B-Hop. It wasn't even close in my opinion.

Calzaghe was floored in the first but easily outworked Hopkins throughout the fight. B-Hop did very little from the 4th round onwards, he put up some resistance in the 8th but still clearly lost.

The only reason there is any controversy is because its being stirred up by Hopkins and a few deluded fans. Hopkins did well for a 43-year-old ... but he most definitely did not win this fight.

  16. Of course he did. Joe was throwing some pitty pat punches but it scored points. B-hop beat himself. B-hop thought he was going to slick and coast his way into a win. After the knock down, he was landing the cleaner punches but was getting beat on the score card. I like B-hop but a win is a win. I don't think Joe is all that good. He didn't look good and didn't show any skills. B-hop has to look in the mirror and say, " I lost this fight". All he had to do was pressure Joe and work the hooks on the inside. Im not a Calzaghe fan but he won period hands down. B-hop look like he wasn't in a fight but Calzaghe face, showed he was in a fight. Woman boxing put up a better fight than this one. Pitty pats, windmills, slapping and hammer hands. I guess Joe forgot this is not MMA, we dont throw hammer hands.

  17. calzaghe just about deserve to win but if 43 yr old hopkins can floor him imagine what a 36 yr old hopkins wouldve done to him!  hopkins is right he has much better CV than calzaghe

  18. No way was Joe lucky, even if Hopkins did knock him down i think Joe won fair and square whilst Hopkins had to revert to dirty tactics to win but his pathetic plan still didn't work!

If you watch the fight you will know what we're talking about, Hopkins is i denial, he talks c**p and thats basically the whole fight in a nutshell.
