That was also the year he made his first start for Rod Osterlund driving #98 he switched to the #2 in his rookie season of 1979. He made his Cup debut driving a #8 Dodge for Ed Negre at Charlotte in 1975. In 1976, he drove a race in the #30 and #77. In 1977, he drove a race in the #19.
