Did Eight Belles fall to the 'Curse of Barbaro' at the Kentucky Derby?

Is the Kentucky Derby now cursed? A curse that is even worse than the one that was inflicted on the Chicago Cubs?

  1. Preakness =/= Kentucky Derby. Show some respect to both of them and please do your homework next time.

The three biggest events in recent years I can remember this kind of thing happening at were Barbaro's Preakness, the 2007 Breeder's Cup Filly and Mare Turf, and this year's Kentucky Derby. There are others, but not many occurring in such prestigious races. Certainly those races have not had repetitive deaths. It's the curse of bad luck, not Barbaro.

  2. No..it's a difficult race and the level of the field makes serious injury almost a given. And any horse continuing has a better chance of injury throught the next two races in the Triple. It's a bit like running an Iron Man with children competing. And people many times enter this race without the proper motives. It's the big deal of racing in this country and owners fixate on it, trainers fixate on it, so do jockeys and the American public. Very few horses have made the Triple Crown compared to the number of races run since its onset. This makes it all the more lucrative.

  3. I don't know but they need to limit the number of horses in this race to 15.

  4. The 'curse of Barbaro', huh? That's a new one.

He fell at the start of the race.

Eight Belles fell after she crossed the finish line.

He was male, she was female.

    No curse there, sorry.

Nothing to really link them together other than the derby itself and just how many animals have actually been injured during the derby? Why all of a sudden should there be a curse?

  5. I don't think its Barbaro's fault....Barbaro and Eight Belles are now in horse heaven together...rest in peace both of you!! I think the number of horses should be limited to 15 instead of 20

  6. What the h**l?

    "The curse of Barbaro"

No such thing as a curse.

Leave the two horse Rest In Peace :(

  7. There is no curse of Barbaro and it wouldn't be at the Derby.  If there is a curse, Big Brown will break his leg at the Preakness before the first turn.

  8. good God no! It was a freak accident. Barbaro didn't even injur himself in the derby it was the preakness 3 weeks later... why would there be a curse on the derby? If it would be any race that was cursed it would be the preakness. I'm sorry but this is the most ignorant question about eight belles breaking down that I have seen!

  9. I dont think there is any curse. This happens to horses all the time, though I think horse racing is a horrible sport at this point. If it can kill horses, why are people still doing it, huh? Its disgusting! I didnt make it to the television in time but when i found out this morning i was heartbroken. Its so sad how people put young horses in like that for MONEY. Its really depressing. I would be so mordified if my favorite horse on this planet was put into a big shindig like that and had to be put down for breaking to ankles.

    I'll pray for Eight Bells.
