  1. I was at Newmarket on Friday too, and the weather was filthy!

I'm very surprised that they let the maiden race go off, as I was under the impression that races can be postponed if there is lightning around.

  2. yeah , he was finishing up on the back nine and got struck

  3. Not heard about it.

  4. no

  5. No he definitely didn't.

I was at Newmarket today and the thunder and lightning started just before the 3.45 race which was the 2yo fillies race.  Frankie was on the favourite Zelloof who refused to go into the stalls and was withdrawn not under starters orders.

It was scary because there was fork lightning all round the course and the stalls could have been in danger of being struck with the horses inside.

Once the gates opened the fillies, made a bolt for it and flew down the course like lightning, I think they must have set the course record. The race was won by Fantasia trained by Luca Cumani.

Frankie Dettori came galloping down the course on Zelloof just after the race had ended, he definitely wasn't struck by lightning.  As we were leaving the races we walked out of the course just behind Mr Dettori and some friends and he looked very smart in his Italian suit (no sign of lightning burns).

Sleep well Frankie is fine. xx
