Question:

Did GSP look like he had been taking steroids?

I didn't get to see the 2nd fight between GSP and Matt Hughes until a bit later, but when I did see it, if felt like GSP's body had changed a lot since his first fight with Matt. It looked like he had bulked up a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I really like GSP as a fighter, but it was really hard for me to ignore the changes.

Is it possible for someone to change physiques like that by just regular training (he must have been training just as hard for the first fight and he didn't look like that), or do you think he may have taken some things to enhance the process?

My BF and I think that even though they test for steroids and such that there must be a down time frame between fights where they aren't getting tested and might take some.

What do you think?

  1. all pro fighters take steroids at some point in their career. GSP is one of them.

Other I know for sure that have been on gear:

Hermes Franca, Sean Sherk, Stephan Bonnar (tested positive)

Rashad Evans, Fedor E., Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin, Chuck Liddel, Anderson Silva (based on their appearance, there are visual clues that these guys didn't run a PCT or didn't run a strong enough PCT)

There are MANY more but only a few will ever get caught. The ones that did are idiots and shouldn't be on gear in the first place.

  2. I watched his first MMA fight, not in person, on the internet. He was as ripped then as he is now. I'm pretty sure he has that body from hardcore training, lots of protein consumption, and genetics. There is no way he could have taken steroids and not have been caught. NSAC is very strict about steroid use in the UFC, and knowing what kind of man GSP seems to be, he just wouldn't do that.

Does anyone else, honestly, wish they had GSP's body?

As a heterosexual man, I can honestly say that I do.

  3. The pressure of competition causes many professional athletes to juice.  Although it is also possible that GSP simply put himself on a rigorous protein consumption schedule.  The fastest way to bulk up without steroids, is to basically go to a GNC, and clean out their protein stocks, and then train for 8 hours, consuming a glass of whey protein every 2 hours or so.  Heck, make it a glass per hour.  That is 160 grams of protein a day.  Three hundred and twenty if they make it a two scooper.  Some pro athletes have been known to do that.

Consuming that much protein, protein and training, protein and training, in addition to several other powders they've got, will build up muscle almost as fast as 'roids, although as of yet nothing is faster than 'roids.  If GSP had a whole year between the two fights, then odds are he did not juice.

If it was only one month and he put on that much muscle then odds are he did.  No one, and I mean no one, can put on 20 lbs of muscle or more without juicing in only a month.  It just isn't possible yet.  The idea of amino acid overload, is to have the body make its own testosterone as it needs it.

That is, amino acid intake increases testosterone levels SAFELY, rather than having it be injected in dangerous concetrated amounts.

Again to answer your question, it depends on the time frame between fights; if it was a whole year, or several months, odds are GSP consumed an exagerated amount of protein, while brutalizing his body with training.  If only 1 or two months ellapsed, odds are he was juicing.

Once again; its all about how much time ellapsed, that is how you can generally tell because that is what 'roids are known for.  Freakish, unnatural gains, in a very short time span.  They also have concocted formulae that your body will eliminate within days of having taken it, meaning you will not test positive for it.

If you wish to know, its all about time.

    peace.

Retro: That is baseless accusations  everyone but the 3 people you listed who have tested..

"Every fighter takes them including GSP"

First off, both CSAC, and NSAC now in addition to doing pre and post fight testing, also now do random testing of all NSAC, and CSAC fighters with active licenses.

So to answer the question, in previous years there was some down time between fights people went untested, but as of 2 years ago the CSAC and the NSAC (athletic commissions for California, and Nevada, that sanction the UFC fights when held there,) do random testing as well, on any fighter that holds an active license for them. (Meaning it doesn't have to be for a fighter getting ready to fight in California, or Vegas, just fighters who hold licenses to fight in either place, which pretty much most UFC fighters hold). So far since they have enacted that policy, no one has been suspended for testing positive during random screens.

    Retro:

Tell me what visual clues does Fedor have of steroid usage? Or Rich Franklin? All these people you listed get tested pretty regularly, so aside from your own feelings on the matter what do you have to factually back up your accusations? Especially with someone like Fedor who has had no body changes, no weight changes, and has been tested routinely?

As for the questioner, I think it is possible your memory is slightly off, GSP hasn't had a significant change in physique really, also keep in mind his first fight with Matt was 4 years ago. only 8 fights into his career, and long before he was with a dedicated MMA team. It is quite probable that he has gained some lean muscle mass in 4 years.

However just to go further with it.

Here is a pic of him at UFC 50 (first time he fought Matt)

And here is in the promo shot against Serra.

Notice any huge difference in size, or mass? I don't. He has always been a pretty lean fighter, just big for the division because of his height and frame, but his physique has stayed the same.
