Question:

Did Greg Wyshynski really say Detroit is a boring team??

The way he is talking, he is acting like Detroit is playing a boring Minnesota type trap. Why would a team not play team defense. It may look like the trap, but it is not. Detroit forechecks, backchecks, stands up at the blue line, and does everything right on defense. They also love to play offense. It also doesn't help that Pittsburgh just hasn't responded to adversity. Unless you count looking like a two year old who just dropped their ice cream cone after Game 1, or now little two year old whiners who just had their ice cream cone stolen like in Game 2.

Its time for the leaders of the Penguins (Coach, Captain, Roberts, everyone) to realize the Cup is earned not given away to the media favorite. Whining will not help your team play better. Looking completely dejected will not either. THERRIEN, LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THEIR BUTTS WITH A GOOD OLD FASHIONED BUTT CHEWING. Your current tactics will not do ANYTHING to help the battered morale of your YOUNG team. They NEED YOU!!!

  1. Who cares what Greg Whyshynski thinks...hes just a stupid analyst.

  2. Some say Detroit is not boring, they just make the other team look boring because they don't allow them to do anything.

  3. I find detroit one of the most exciting teams to watch, their fast and talented, and they play like a team.  Everyone joins the rush, everyones backchecking.  Their passing is exciting, and i like thhe fact that almost always in the offensive zone, they have someone around the net.

  4. Who?

Exactly.  He's a loser. Who'll never accomplish anything.

  5. What do you expect...it's Yahoo! Sports...there not TSN or THN.Yeah every person has there own opinions but he's not really good or entertaining at making blogs.

  6. I didn't hear that, but I believe you. There are a lot of people who say that about Detroit. Sorry, but it wins games and fills the stands, even on the road. Isn't that what they play for....to win? It's called team chemistry....doing the little things, being unselfish, committed, determined, and sacrifice, a perfect example is Detroit. Like I've said, the model of the future of the NHL. ....what other teams wish they had and where other teams want to go....

  7. the only reason someone could think detroit is boring is because they are consistent....

    consistently winning

  8. They play a very smart system. They have always had the same system since Bowman came in the early 1990's. They get smart players that can skate to match the system they play.

What Pittsburgh needs to do is not let Detroit set up their 1-2-2 neutral zone trap. Their enter game is based on the counter attack. Detroit only dumps the puck when they are going to change lines.

When they dump the puck in, the Pens need to quickly move it. If they need a line change, just cross the center line and dump it in. If they don't need a change, they try to get an odd man rush. If they dump it in, they need to give Detroit a taste of their own medicine and play a 1-2-2 neutral zone trap.

If the Wings do get the 1-2-2 neutral zone trap on the Pens have to do the following. one D behind the net has the puck, one D in front of the net, both wingers on the hash marks, and the center curls behind the net to pick up the puck.

After the center picks up the puck, the D behind the net and the far side winger break up the ice. The center can skate with it or pass it to the near side winger. Regardless of what the center does, the near side winger curls into the slot. This provides three players rushing down the ice and a bunch short passing options.

When Detroit attacks, the man with the puck goes wide, the next man goes to the net, and the 3rd man in goes to the high slot. The D on the man with the puck needs to keep him wide. If the man with the puck goes behind the net, the D need to switch up who they are defending against. The first forechecker back stays with the man in the slot. The other forwards need to stay on the Wings D. If Detroit keeps the puck and they set up the triangle and start to cycle, the Pens need to play a man on man system.

The Pens can't get anxious and they can't get down. They need to redo their strategy. They have to play conservatively. Since they can't score, the last thing they should do is open it up too much and give extra chances to Detroit.

In the offensive zone, the Pens need to shoot the puck and crash the net. The cute pass bullsh*t needs to end. The moment they enter the offensive zone they need to throw the puck on net, preferably high blocker side, and crash the net. The 2nd & 3rd men in the zone crash the net. The man that shot the puck should go to the high slot.
