  1. No. The storm never became a Category 5. It was a Category 4, and is currently a Category 3.

  3. It was a strong category 4 late yesterday.  It is common for storms to weaken overnight and it did go to a category 3.  I wouldn't be surprised to see it at a category 5 today.  You can see the wind speed info in the archived National Hurricane Center bulletins (link provided).

    The pressure distributions didn't look as expected on the last weather map I saw.

  5. last night it said that is was just short of a cat 5, but it could restrengthen and get to a cat 5 status before hitting the US.  

  6. You can track Gustav in real time with this site:  Gustav never reached cat 5, and is not forecast to reach cat 5 strength.  The storm is now holding at cat 4 after departing Cuba.  Things are not looking so hot for New Orleans right now.
