Question:

Did Hendrick pull the trigger on Mears too late or too soon?

Just think, if Hendrick lets Mears go last year & keeps Kyle Busch in the 5 car, then he has Gordon, Johnson, Busch, & Jr. A dream team. You've got former champions who still can win. The best up & coming driver in years with Busch & the fan favorite to rack in the money with Jr.

Now, how can he let Mears go when he's won just as many races in the last year as Jr has?

I think Hendrick is trying to fix the HUGE mistake he made by letting Busch go with a quick trigger on Mears. Mears will find another ride because he is received well by fans & I'm sure a major sponsor would love to have him represent their product.

GOOD LUCK MEARS!

  1. I think you should hire him at DEI, Mrs. Earnhardt. Really, I think Casey has been short-changed all season since Jr. came on board. I hope he ends up on a team that will invest in him. He's a good driver who still has 10-15 good years of racing left. Hendrick's loss will be somone else's gain.

  2. Busch would not be doing this well if he was still at Hendrick, he just didn't have good chemistry with the way their organization works. I don't think anyone expected Mears to struggle so bad this year, but hindsight is 20/20. I think this is the right timing for this move by Hendrick.

  3. It's Alan Gustafson's fault Mears is doing so bad, and the reason Kyle wasn't reaching his full potential like he is now.

It's a shame Casey is out of a job but a pathetic Crew Chief like Gustafson is still sitting pretty. Apparently it's always the drivers fault over at HMS.

  4. who knows kyle is just doin good cause of toyotas cheating  with that 35 extra Hp

  5. A bunch of us were talking about this today at happy hr afterwork, wow wouldn't it be a riot if Casey Mears, just say he goes to DEI and does what Rowdy has done at JGR.. Hey anything can happen..I like Casey, I just wish things could have been better for him at HMS...Best of luck to you Casey it had to be hard being there kinda lost behind Jeff, Jimmie and Jr...Casey will be fine..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  6. I think that Tony Stewart will be taking the place of Mears  he is a good driver I don't THINK  they give him good cars.

  7. for starters, hendrick made no mistake when he let kyle busch go. hendrick tired of the scrub's wreckless driving and childish personality, he's caused more wrecks than he has wins this year. and mark my word, joe gibbs will follow suit within the next 3 years. and yes, mears did win one race in a year and a half at HMS, but that's where the similarities end between him and junior. junior is third in points, where's mears? junior runs up front every week and leads laps, where does mears run? how many laps has he led this year? junior won more races in the first half of his rookie year than mears has won in his 5 or 6 year career. you sure picked the right screen name, you are as bitter and ignorant about this sport as the person you are protraying.

EDIT: exactly what has casey mears done in his career to make you people think he's a good driver? he's taken a car and crew cheif who contended for a championship last year and he's struggling to stay in the top 35 with it. where is the evedence of him being a good driver? he's under achieved his entire career.

  8. too soon he is a good driver and needs a team that would help him out in the races.

  9. Rumor last week, that Mears is gone and they are not sure who will take his place.

and while Mears is a good driver, Mrs Pretend Earnhardt, he is not JR and never will be, he could not last through all the stuff you would throw at him...Mark Martin is none too pleased with you right now either....

  10. Poor Casey, I like the guy. I don't think Rick gave him enough of a chance. It's hard to be consistant when you're constantly being bounced around from team to team. Should've given him another year to prove himself.

  11. I agree competly!!

  12. "Now, how can he let Mears go when he's won just as many races in the last year as Jr has?"........It isn't just the wins. Other than last week, when was the last time Mears even finished in the top 10? Don't get me wrong, I like Casey too. He is a nice enough guy. But, from a business standpoint, I would let him go also if that meant that I could put somebody in one of my cars that could finish in the top 10 AND pull out some wins from time to time.

As for the Kyle Busch part. Same ole' same ole'. He didn't do that well for Hendrick. He wrecked a lot of cars and didn't have many wins. He's doing great where he is now. Whose to say he would be doing this well if he was still HMS? I still say it was a business move, and it has worked out well for everybody involved.

  13. Know it all has it right .I'm a Jr. fan and he hasn't prov en himself yet eather. If you look at HMS they have only had 3 great drivers . Tim Richman Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson. D.W. was a has been when he raced there. Rick goes through a lot of drivers to find the great ones.I don't know what he will do now but he may come up with another one.

  14. Uh, there's an old saying: "Hindsight is foresight." Besides, Shrub still has to go through the rest of the season. Plus, the points don't mean an empty beer can due to the lame final ten race so-called Chase for the Championship.

He will crash out a few times when he throws one of his famous tantrums because his car isn't handling and he overdrives it like in the Nationwide race.

Rick Hendrick didn't become a power by being wishy-washy. He knows something we don't know.

  15. I really hope Mears doesnt go to RCR, but i agree with you.  letting busch go was an idiot move.  having Mears wasnt the smartest thing ever. he pulled the trigger WWWWAAAAAYYYY too late

  16. Kyle Busch just didn't fit into the polished Hendrick drivers mold... it wasn't Kyle's style. I like Casey Mears. But unfortunately thing's haven't clicked there and I think that team was used as a test puppet, needless to say, to the benefit of the 24, 48, and 88. I could be wrong. Joe Gibbs Racing is more relaxed, so Kyle could be Kyle.

I would love to see Mears find a good ride next year!

  17. Too late. If he wanted to s***w over Casey and give him the R&D car, he should've fired him at the end of last season.
