    It was Henry II who was implicated in the murder of Thomas Becket and as part of his penance he made a pilgrimage to Canterbury, completing the final part of the journey barefoot.

    Two years later he swore an oath to the Papal legates at Savigny and at Avranches that the death was not in accordance with his wishes. This was the end of the matter.

    Henry III visited the shrine in 1255 but it wasn't Rocamadour. It was a statue in Boulogne.
