I am going there in 3 weeks. I am just wondering if I should cancel. I am staying at The Royal Playa Del Carmen. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks.

  1. i think you will be fine -- just some beach erosion. the weather channel broadcast from puerto aventuras (just south of playa del carmen) and it really wasn't that bad there -- they had to stand the reporters by the beach wall by palm trees to make it look like a hurricane.  some hurricanes are wound tighter than others.  the damage doesn't spread out very far.  i think dean was one of them.  i went through charlie (2004) and the damage was minimal 15 miles away from the center.

  2. It did not.

When the hurricane passed by Cancun, it was in level 1, so it was just thunderstorms and a lot of showers... but I didn't affect most of the hotels, you can call to the hotel you're staying and ask them what's going on.... that's the safest way.

  3. Here is a couple of websites to check for info regarding Hurricanne Dean and surrounding area.

Also check their websites for updates.

Good Luck. I'm sure the resort is fine. Dean landed south of Playa Del Carmen

  4. No problem, Playa del Carmen was not affected at all. It hasn't even been mentioned in the news here in Mexico (and they're talking about the hurricane 70-80% of the time), so they're fine down there.... so just go and enjoy your vacations, it's a very nice place....
