Did I break or jam my toe?

I recently hurt my toe, and I don't know if it's broken, jammed, or injured some other way. It's the toe right next to my big toe on my right foot. It's pretty bruised and swollen. I'm not sure if it's broken because I can move it with little pain (although it is a toe).. the bruise is the worst right behind my nail. Imagine one of those black bruises under the nail.. but right where the nail meets the skin. Did I do something to the nail?

I broke the same toe a couple years ago. I went to the hospital and all they did was give me motrin, ice and tape it to my big toe with medical tape. Don't waste your money by getting xrays. Leave the nail alone, but I should warn you... it might turn colors and fall off in the next few weeks. It's one of those injuries that's not a huge deal but hurts like h**l and takes a long time to heal. Hope this helped. Good luck
