Question:

Did I clean the cage accessories well enough?

I'm getting a Jungle Carpet Python tomorrow, I have all that I need for its care and know all about them so I don't need schooled on that, but I want to use some cage accessories that I used with my Ball Python, who passed away from unknown causes before we could get to a vet.

The accessories are a large rock waterbowl, and two branch/tree things from a petstore(I don't think they're actually wood, I think they're plastic). I was going to boil them but our stove is broken, our oven works but I wasn't sure if they were safe to bake.

So far I scrubbed them the other day with water, earlier I soaked them in an about 1/12 bleach solution for about 8 minutes, and now they are soaking in just plain hot water to get rid of the bleach.

Is this enough, are these items safe to use now? Or is there something else I can do?

  1. It very important to clean things like this after a last pet passes away, but be careful on what product you use to clean them with. Chamicals like bleach and other hard products could make the animal get an allergic reaction or sick. If you are not sure how to clean them, go to a local pet shop or vet and ask them. They will defintely tell you how to properly clean an animals habitat

  2. That should be great. Make sure all of the scent of the bleach is gone though. Bleach is a great cleaner but also a very toxic one, especially the smell of it. You could also microwave water in a container somehow and use that as well. Anyways it sounds good though.

good luck with your new future pet. =)
