Question:

Did I do permanent damage?

During a semester of my sophomore year I got straight Cs. During both my junior and senior year I plan on getting straight As in honors and AP classes. I have a 3.2 right now, but I can definitely get the As. I want to go to a good school as a biophysics or a biology major.

What do I do to fix any damage I've done, besides getting As?

  1. If you have great SAT scores and a great essay, you still have your chances. It never hurts to try. From now on, it's only A's..ok?? Good luck

  2. you're screwed.

  3. Life is about making mistakes and learning from them.  So you messed up in school at the age of 15, you were still in your early teens.  You have recovered .  You grew up over that summer.

Take AP Sciences and get A's in them. Become a great student, one teachers look forward to having in class.  Get one or two of your teachers to write you a letter of recommendation when the time comes to apply.  Early decision may hurt you as you need to build up your grades and show a steady pattern of improvement.

You must be dedicated to this task of improvement.  Your time for slacking is in the past.  You have you goal now make it happen.  If you make it happen then getting into a good school will be no problem.

Don't forget active involvement in clubs, sports or activities.  These are extremely important in showing a well rounded student suitable for a liberal arts college/university.

  4. You may have hurt your chances at the elite schools -- but if you actually can get straight As and a high SAT score, then you will still be able to get into a good school.

In your admissions essay, you will have to address the problem with your grades, explaining why you did poorly that semester.
