Would you do the same?

If someone goes all up in your face and hits you in the mouth and busted your lip wide open, then you took him down and got full mount and got him in a keylock, would you snap his shouler or get off because he said his done? Remember he busted your lip wide open because of the cheap shot.

I recently got into a fight, he cheap shotted me and busted my lip wide open, and took him down (since i did brazillian jujitsu for 3 months),i key-locked the guy. When he screamed and said "ok get offfff, you win!!!" i got off him.

He busted my lip and cheap shotted me, i should of snapped his shoulder in my opinion. What would you do?

  1. Absolutely you did the right thing.  You handled the situation, and your adversary, without seriously injuring anything more than his pride.

Whether you snap his shoulder - or make any drastic decision - must depend on necessity and never on wrath.  If it was a streetfight situation and you were facing multiple attackers, absolutely, bust his arm and then get the h**l away.  But if it's a schoolyard fight, absolutely not.

Necessity is also what the law will look at should the cops and the courts become involved.

Besides, just because other people have no honor, doesn't mean you have to be without it.  End of lecture.

  2. He admitted your dominance over him. You did well in going no further.

Your lip will heal, and so will your ego.

A snapped shoulder takes a lot longer.

  3. get a good attorney.

  4. Yes. You did the right thing. I've been in way too many fights at school. Just remember to never dishonor yourself, NEVER HIT A MAN WHEN HE IS ON THE DECK, no matter who he is or what he did(well in most cases) because its honorable, only pusses do that

  5. Blocking him would have been the "right" thing to do, but if he blindsided you, he asked for whatever you gave back (and maybe more)!

  6. Keylock? You should have pounded him instead of submitting him.

  7. No you shoulden't have hurt him bad,,,,,,,,,,,do real damage to save your life, not to deal with a punk.............

  8. I think you stopped at the right time and did the right thing, but you also got lucky.   Lucky because this person actually stopped and walked away after you let them get up.  You need to keep in mind that some people will say anything to get back to their feet for round 2.

  9. I would of got satisfaction when he said ok you win get off because that means he is scared of you, he knows what you are capable of doing, he knows you would of beat the c**p out of him because you were on top of him. he was scared, i would of stopped right there. you did the right thing.

  10. You did the right thing by getting up. The proper philosophy in ANY martial art is defense, not necessarily to hurt someone. You defended yourself and taught him a lesson. Now most likely he'll not do that again.

Just because you know how to hurt someone does not mean you should.

  11. If you're learning martial arts, then you should know what martial arts is really for.  Think about it and decide that yourself.

  12. self control

    much congrats

you new the difference between showing some punk whats what and breaking someone who is trying to break you

  13. You did the right thing it takes a lot of self-control to walk away. And besides is a lawsuit worth an ego?

  14. Its a good thing you did not snap his shoulder. I would of done the same thing. I would of got off. Being a martial artist is about having self control. Even though he really ticked you off, you still not chose not to snap his shoulder. Thats good for you.

  15. To only have studied 3 months you made a decision that some martial artist couldn't have made after years of training. Is destroying someone's shoulder the same as a busted lip? No. Truly I feel you done the right thing. I have had someone pull a knife and try to stab me, but I didn't in turn try to kill them

As someone that studies the arts you will have to be able to make decisions on how to handle all situations since if you take it too far you may have to answer for it in front of a court of law.

  16. An eye for an eye

    A lip for an arm

    Sounds fair to me

  17. damaging him is not necessary

  18. No you shouldn't have ripped and/or torn or dislocated his rotator cuff at all.  If you're having those kinds of feelings you need to go back to the dojo and get your head screwed on right.  Pride is a dangerous weapon when you use it against your self and you second guessing yourself is nothing more than pride.  The "He busted my lipp now he'll go bragging to his friends how he busted my lipp and I didn't do any damage to him at all...I should have" thoughts are nothing more than pure pride.  Pride has no place in the heart of a decent modest person. Especially one who studies "Japanese Virtues" and knows why pride is a dangerous thing.  You did the right thing stopping short, because when a man yields then he yields, let that be the end of it and move on.  What good would it have done and how would you actually have felt knowing that his arm would have needed long term rehabilitation? Would that have solved any anything other than your own simple pride?  A busted mouth may be bad, but I've walked away literally from fights after being punch without so much as raising my voice let alone grounding the dude that did it knowing the whole time I could have easily destroied the dude.  I never second guessed my actions as I sat there nursing a bruised eye.  It takes a better man to walk away from a fight ( busted lipp or not ) than it does to get instant satisfaction for personal pride.  Being a humble person is all it takes sometimes.  I don't mean bow down to anyone, but use your head, there's the opponent then there's you and your training.  Not everyone knows what you know so that makes you a weapon compared to everyday wanna-be's and the common man on the streets.  I suggest you do some major "soul searching" about your pride issue.
