Did I do the right thing by calling the fire dept after I saw a mulch fire while walking on a street?

Question

It was a small smoldering one but when I first saw it there were flames. I knocked on the door of the house no one answered. I asked a kid who was a few houses down if he knew who lived there he said she was sleeping. He didnt have his parents call the fire dept. I went home and called then went down there to tell them that i was the one that called. the kid came back while they were there and just watched. did I do the right thing? by calling because I know the kid wouldnt!

umm it depends wherew there any1 out side or in the backyard or just went inside to get somthing  if so they could have been burning somthing i would have probably waiting to see if any1 was inside but its ood u called cuz they could ave not been home

Yes you did the right thing.  If they were burning the pile on purpose they should have been there watching it with a rake and some water for control.  Also it could have been a spontaneous fire from the heat building up in the pile still a danger.  Good job

My parents are in their 70's and a lady driving by the house noticed a fire on the porch and all the way up the front of the house.  Thank God for people like you who care.  I also, have a brother in his 40's who had severe brain damage at 16 years old.  All three of them were in the house at the time.  The Fire Department was alerted immediately and everyone is fine.  I definitely believe that you did the right thing!  Have a great day, and God Bless you!
