Question:

Did I faint or have a seizure?

I am a 16 year old guy. I was on my computer, and decided to stand up to get something. Right when I got up, my head was spinning insanely, and then I was on the floor. I don't recall the actual falling or the feeling. I stayed down a while to gain my sense of orientation. I get this sensation quite often, about once a week.

Is this a seizure or just fainting? What's a distinctive difference between the two?

Thanks

  1. You definitely fainted. Getting up too fast causes a rush of blood from the head, which temporarily starves the brain of oxygen. Without oxygen, the brain goes into damage control and temporarily shuts off motor control to conserve oxygen, hence fainting.

Since you're getting this once a week, you should see the doctor about it. Constant fainting may potentially signify anemia (low red blood cell count), so it's something you need to get looked at.

  2. I think you just fainted some people do that when they gt up too fast or it may be that there is something wrong with your inner ear/balance I would mention this to someone or go to a dr. in case it's something worse.
