Question:

Did I get a shoplifting record?

I'm currently in college and trying to find internships and most of them require a background check. I shoplifted when I was 10years old(my biggest regret), but they didn't call the police. One of the guy was writing a report or something on the computer though.

Basically my sister came and pick me up and they photocopied her ID, but not mine because I didn't have one at the time.

Now this stupid thing is haunting me because I don't know whether to say yes or no on job applications when they ask if I have ever committed a crime. I don't know whether they filed a police report or not. If I say no and they find something on my check then they will know I'm lying, if I say yes they will mark straight away.

any opinion ladies & gents?

  1. at ten you are not classed as legally responsibly, so you could be forgiven for leaving this off your form. provided it was a one and only and you learnt your lesson and you can honestly say it is not representative of the person you are now, I can see no moral, legal or ethical reason why you would have to mention it.

  2. number one they didnt call the cops to file a report so that right there answers your question...it canot be on your record if the cops were never called to file a report against you for tealing

number two you were ten..at that age you are not legal you are not considered an adult and can not have a record.  only when you hit the age 18 is when anything can b filed against you

    stop worrying about it

  3. no you didn't get charged or a police report taken, you don't have a record.  Most of the time job applications ask if you have been "convicted of a crime".  No police report, no trial, no conviction= no record.  Don't sweat it, unless you use your sister as a reference :)

  4. I don't think you have anything to worry about.  They did not get your ID--they probably wanted to scare you into being honest--which it looks like they accomplished!  Good luck with your internship!

  5. I don't believe you have a record, because your sister's ID was scanned, not yours, and you didn't get any problems after that. But still, you can't know for sure until your background is checked once. If you're really anxious about it you can go to the nearest police station and make a few questions. I wouldn't do that though...

  6. I wouldnt worry about it after 3years its off ur records anyways only if u did time in prison then yes thats on ur record
