Did I get the wrong cable for an MP3 player hookup for my car stereo?

I got a new MP3 player to use when walking and stuff, a friend of mine has an RCA 3.5mm cable hooked up to his stereo in his car so he can listen to his MP3 player. I got identical cables, but instead of red and white... they are red and black. We hooked it up to my stereo, and the sound only comes from the rear speakers of my car. I was wondering if anyone would know that possibly the white cable would be used for the front speakers. The plug-ins are red and white, so I just got the only available cable that was cheap.

  1. as long as you have the black cable connected to the white cable straight across from the red one it should work fine. make sure the cables are plugged in all the way and aren't popping out. sometimes if you have one cable in it will only send the signal to one set of speakers so to me thats what it sounds like and thats what i would check first
