Did I have a yeast infection?

Okay, well. It has smelt a bit bad down south since my last period (around July 25-around August 1 I would say). I was thinking I had a yeast infection but I shaved all of my pubic hair off this morning and now it doesn't smell anymore. My discharge has been clumpy lately but my period is due soon and I usually have a bit more discharge around this time of the month. I have heard that oxygen kills yeast, and since I shaved I'm guessing that it allowed more air down there and killed the yeast if I had a yeast infection, do you think I had a yeast infection? Thanks.

  1. You probably did.  Although by shaving doesn't kill the yeast off, You may still have the infection whether you think it went away or not.  Yeast infections usually occur when your getting your period due to hormone changes.  I would wait to see if you still get the discharge and the foul smell, if you do, just go to the local pharmacy (rite aid, walgreens, cvs) to get Monistat.  You can get either the 1 day, 3 day or 7 day.  I would get the 3 day.  I think they even have the over night ones this way you arent in discomfort during the day!

    Good Luck!

  2. Me thinks you may need to go to the doctor. It could be a yeast infection or it could be something else. A yeast infection usually has a thick white, "cheesy" discharge from the v****a. There may be itching, swelling, burning, or redness of the genital area. You may also have burning when you pass urine.

A yeast infection is generally in the v****a, so your hair situation shouldn't really affect it. Air is something than can help with yeast problems, but generally it is recommended that you wear cotton underpants.

I would see a doctor, it could be something else besides yeast and that could cause long term problems. Plus it is good to make sure everything is okay and learn what might have caused this infection to avoid it in the future.

  3. usually when you have a yeast infection its not just a smell you get you also get and itch and sometimes discomfort when you urinate. but yogurt is a really good way to keep those away and also cranberry juice
