Did Alistair Darling advise the public not to ask for a pay rise so as to help the economy and if he did don't you think that's a bit cheeky since the MP's gave themselves a self imposed pay rise well above inflation.

  1. With a name like Alistair [Scottish] what do you expect.  The only things MPs ever agree on cross-party is the increase in their salaries and expenses.  They were out for 60% - did they get it?  I never read the final figure in any of the newspapers!

  2. This New Labour likes to portray itself as a honest, caring and trustworthy government.

But in reality it fiddles the books (for one the inflation rate), cares little about anyone, and cannot be trusted with the most basic of information.

On top of all that they want the very people who are hurting the most, to bear the biggest burden, because of their incompetence.

They are contemptable, how they have the audacity to tell people who are on or near the NMW, that they must tighten their belts and expect even less is nothing short of shameful.

WHAT ABOUT THE CITY FAT CATS tell them.

  3. He has a point, although accepting the MP's payrise WAS clearly hypocritical. (I think that the cabinet recently forego a payrise, but I can't be sure, and even then he did accept the rise earlier this year)

If pay didn't rise then inflation would slow down, we might just have a chance to delay this recession until after our middle eastern wars are over. Raising pay means that the companies they work for raise prices on their goods and services, until inflation goes out of control and we're back in a recession, just like before. Economies naturally fluctuate between recessio and boom, and its been a long time since the last recession. But if we can hold it of until its reasonable to decrease defense and other public sector spending we might be able to pull ourselves out of it quicker.

  4. One set of rules for them

And a different set for us - sounds about normal!!

  5. Just what this Country needs - another useless goon as Chancellor. But hey, how are they going to pay for their rise if they have to give it to others as pay increases?
