Did I make a mistake by choosing a science major over an engineering major?

With the economy being so bad, its seems we almost need to survive, especially for those who are just starting out. So, it's of course my decision, but do you honestly think I made a mistake picking a biochemistry major (30Kstarting) over chem engineering or the sorts (higher lets say) based just on my interests? I may go to med school still though.

  1. No, I do not think you made a mistake, if you do not have a passion for your job; its just that a job and your performance will not be up to par.

Kids will ask me why am I a teacher, you do not get paid the "big bucks", and I always tell them you have to have a passion/drive for the job. Whatever you decide on for a career be passionate about it do not just get a job because of the money or you will end up changing jobs till you find the right one.

  2. Nah.  You might start out with a higher salary in engineering, but virtually everyone in the sciences needs an advanced degree these days to get ahead, so it should even out in the long run.  More importantly, if you force yourself to do something you're not interested in, it'll show in your work, and you'll get passed over come bonus and promotion time.

  3. Instead of worrying about how much money you are going to make, do what you like to do.  If you do somethign you hate, you won't do it very long and give up.  The economy today won't be the same thing in a year or so from now.  Economy will change, it always has and always will...../
