Question:

Did I make alcohol out of bread dough?

I made pizza dough last month and left it in the frig for the whole time, I tasted some of it today and it tasted like alcohol. Like it had that acidic taste wine has. If I ate enough of it could I get a little buzzed?

  1. You probably couldn't get buzzed off of it, bread dough has too little sugar in it.  Plus if it's been in there a long time, the alcohol will have broken down.


  2. No you wouldn't.  For a couple of reasons:

    Yes the yeast fermented inside the dough and produced alcohol along with carbon dioxide but it's in very small amounts and your stomach would be too full with dough before you got enough alcohol.  One of the reasons it is so little alcohol is because natural bacteria in dough eat the alcohol as it is made.

    But you are welcome to try.

  4. It's just because of the yeast in the dough, and no, I don't think you can get buzzed from pizza dough.
