I have a second hand toyota utility vehicle with a 1.8 7k engine. The engine is still running fine but I feel that it is consuming a lot of gas. I have the carburator cleaned up and repaired but it still consume a liter of gasoline for every 5-6 kilometer. did I overlook something?

  1. Next to a dirty air filter, the worst offender for poor fuel economy is probably incorrect ignition timing. If it's retarded (not enough advance) it will be gutless and consume larger amounts of fuel. Also check to see if the exhaust pipe got smashed shut at the end or if the cat converter is plugged (it will make a hissing noise when you step on the gas).

  2. I also had my tires rotated and aligned,  and air levels checked. It takes more energy to rotate poorly aligned tires and proper air levels will give better efficiency.

  3. air filter
