Question:

Did I ruin the lawn mower?

Yesterday I was mowing with my brother's mower and I stopped it. When I tried restarting it I flooded it and I tried and tried and couldn't restart it. So I let it sit over night and it started and ran for about 10 minutes and I had to stop again and then again it wouldn't restart. So I let it sit for 3-4 hours and it still won't start no matter how much I crank it. (it has both a key start and a rope and I tried both ways) What should I do???

  1. you might try cleaning the spark plug

  2. I'm going to guess that you choked the engine to restart it, and it was already hot.     A hot engine does not need to be choked to start.

However, after sitting for 3 or 4 hours, most small engines will need to be choked, at least momentarily, in order to start.

If it sputters like it's trying to start while cranking, maybe try opening the choke when that happens so that you don't flood it again.

  3. you didn't ruin it. just may be out of gas?

or there could be some wear and tear on the spark plug. if it has gas just take out the plug and bring it into a local automotive shop and they can get you the correct one and if you ask nicely they will make sure that it is spaced correctly.

  4. take the air filter off and try to start the mower if it starts and runs, clean the filter  its probably soaked with gas.after cleaning the filter reinstall it.
