I run two miles at 6.5 on a treadmill every other day. My knees have been hurting lately when I run on the treadmill. I wanted to know if I could of had messed up my joints or something and stunted my growth.

Thanks. I am 12 by the way an have not gotten my period yet. I eat normally as well.

  1. DUH!! she's female. She mentioned her period. wow.

I dont think you could have stunted your growth by running. but maybe you should slow down a bit and only do one mile for a while, see if your knees stop hurting. oh and talk to a doctor they would know the best.

    :D

  2. are you male or female!

  3. if the pain is in your lower knee then you may have ozgood-schlotters disease.

i have it, and my doctor said that it isn't a real big deal, but you might wanna ice your knees/take some ibuprofen after you run.

  4. give yourselfe a days rest because during that rest the muscles reconstruct and you develope stronger muscles..so you dont want to be working out for nothing..resting will make you STRONGER. also, stretch every stretch even the arms BEFORE and AFTER your workouts. this will prevent injury. also, start each workout with a walk and jog!!

btw you inspire me to run more! thanks.

  5. It shouldn't stunt your growth but the extra pressure on your knees is what is making them hurt.  Motrin, Tylenol or Alieve are good for that.  Don't worry about your period it will come eventually.

  6. Don't worry about stunting your growth, that is for the most part a myth.  Cross-training helps strengthen your joints and ligaments against injury.  Try bicycling or other low impact sports that you enjoy.  Most importantly, take care of your body.  If your legs hurt, do something that doesn't hurt them, they need to heal.  I've known a few star athletes who trained through the pain and now can't run anymore.  Rest today, play tomorrow!
