  1. Yes. We Irish have a long proud history.

  2. According to David Hughes on 'HIGH-KINGS OF IRELAND'

"The tribal chiefs and clan captains of Ireland gathered in an assembly in 1092 and drew up a document of grievances and sent it to the Pope along with the royal Irish regalia, including the ancient crown of the Irish high-kings itself [which was made of gold and embedded with emeralds] authorizing the Pope to appoint a successor."

  3. Not that I know of. The High King had a throne and a stone (the Lia Fail) at his seat in Tara, but I never heard of a regalia in the modern sense, even less of a crown or other jewels.

Interesting link Alpha, do you know what sources it relies on? This account is hard to believe... I mean, the Chiefrains stelaling Mutough's crown and writing to the pope for him to designate as successor? Not at all the Irish way, and where would those emeralds come from? Plus I notice Murtough was already 6 years on the Seat of Tara at the time of the alleged dispute, and stayed there like 25 more years... guess the pope never answered?

  4. I saw a show once about a stone throne sitting in the middle of a feild that was supposed to be the very seat of the last Irish King if I remember the story properly.

  5. Yes. At one time there were several different kingdoms on the island.

  6. Yes.......... so did scotland and i believe wales .......
