Did Jefferson have it right that the President was given too much power?

Why do people think having a leader is important or necessary? It's too much like having a king and the guy could become tyranical, like Bush. If we needed someone to interact with other countries, we could use the head of the Foreign Relations branch. What's was the big deal with the founders needing a head of state?

  1. Right now the Supreme Court has the most Power.

But, yes you are right Jefferson's belief, about the President.

Just look at FDR's ripping-up the constitution to become Supreme Power with the agreement of Congress.

Of course, as Bill Clinton said - "The Ends Justify The Means"

    .

  2. It's amazing how much less power the president has as compared to how much people think he has.

There is very little the president can do without the support of congress.

It's also amazing how much less power the government has as compared to what people think it has.

Low power government headed by a low power president is a good thing.

  3. The President doesn't have too much power. Congress (controlled by demorats at the time) willfully allowed Bush to do whatever he wanted with Iraq.

  4. Apparently so, but isn't it human nature to want and abuse power?  and for the masses to want a single personality as a figurehead?  We are lucky enough that the FF only gave em 8 years otherwise the Bush would be doin the Mugabe dance.
