  1. His SECOND year.  His FIRST year starting.

And he just OWNED your best pitcher.

    Hmmm...

  2. it's time that people started to realize that joba is just as good as a starter as he was as a reliever if not better...and it's time for people like me to admit that i was wrong and the yankees made the right decision moving him to the rotation when they did...he has been a huge boost and kyle farnsworth has been extremely effective in the eighth inning

  3. There WAS a lot of talk about how Beckett was going to wreck Joba.  Today, there is stunned silence, and/or excuses from the Boston fans.

Even BECKETT had the class to admit that Joba was the better pitcher last night:

“I was the second-best pitcher today,” Beckett said, “and ultimately that gets you a loss most of the time.”

Joba is a very talented pitcher who out-pitched Boston's ace last night  Red Sox fans need to accept it.

  4. He isn't overrated but lets not think that he is the next Roger Clemens of 3 years ago.  There are a lot of pitchers who do well in theior first seasons who don't do better the next years.  The reason is that players will have tape to watch in order to figure him out.

  5. If he IS overrated (which I don't agree with), it isn't his fault. It's just his fault that he OWNED the Sox yesterday, giving up 3 baserunners (I don't think he issued a walk?) through 24 batters faced. Beckett pitched great too, he just didn't have enough in the tank to beat Joba. Joba got the Joba done.

Agree with Kevin A that I hate bad calls even when they help the Yanks, since it opens the door to the world of excuses from other people (and the annoying thing is...they're probably right).

  6. Just imagine for a minute. It's your second year and you're in a tight divisional race pitching on the road in a huge series against you arch enemy and their ace pitcher.

He tosses a gem but you toss a better one for the shutout  win.

There's nothing overrated about Joba. He stepped up and delivered when it counted the most.

  7. Joba Chamberlain did in fact out pitch Beckett. Josh Beckett said so himself in a post game interview with ESPN. "I was the second best pitcher out there tonight. You usually end up losing if it's that way." said Josh Beckett after the game. But I have to give it to Josh Beckett though. It's not like the Yankees rocked him. The one run that scored was a dribbler into right field from Giambi because the Sox were fielding Giambi to pull, like every team fields Giambi, Giambi just got a lucky break. Beckett and Chamberlain both pitched a heck of a game. Hats off to both!

  8. Both pitchers threw great games. It would be hard to say if the better man won, it was just lucky for the Yankees that they got a run and the Sox didn't. Joba has shown he can pitch very well in high pressure situations which will put him in a good place come for future playoff teams.

  9. he did do better than josh becket id say.... and it was even his first start at fenway he struck out nine tyeing the record for most strikeouts at first apperance at fenway park ... thats amazing

  10. Red Sox fans, tip your cap. Yanks fans, don't over do it.

Even after tonight's performance, he's still overrated, but only because this past off-season some loud Yanks fans treated him like the second-coming of Cy Young.

  11. Ok i'm a die hard yankee fan and joba was great, however? i'm not taking anything away from Beckett.and not for nothing? but we only scored 1 run.

  12. are you serious overated? Do you even watch baseball? 100+mph fastball with accuracy & a change, nasty curve, unhitable slider, how do you overate an era of 2.5? You must not know what good pitching looks like. Tell Varitek he is overated swinging at those curves, those really looked bad. Beckett didnt get out pitched he just got screwed on a lucky hit by Jason. The balls/strike calls were horible all night on both ends, horible umpiring & that is comming from a yankee fan, that was a ball to Mike Lowell, horible call. It pisses me off when umpires are that bad even when it helps my team.
