Did Jordan's early playoff berths mean little?

Im a big fan of his airness but truth be told I believe that in his first few years the Eastern conference was garbage. He got into the playoffs with the 3rd seed with a 44-38 record the 1st year and the bulls somehow managed to get into the playoffs with a 33-48 record the next. They were swept in both series. I think that Jordan was put in Kobe's position a few years ago where he had to lead a somewhat crappy team. However, if Kobe had been is Jordan's era his teams would have cruised into the playoffs even the team three years ago that didn't make the playoffs. Your thoughts?

  1. dont call youself an mj fan ever again because your not

  2. Jordan was garbage until Pippen and Jackson arivved

  3. I would say the west has a whole now had better competition than the east as a whole back then but the top 2 teams in the east Larry Bird's Celtics and Isiah thomas' Pistons would still stop any of Kobe's teams without Shaq.  Not sure who had the better team...during those first few years kobe's team wasn't that great when they lost to the sun's but he probably had a better supporting cast than jordans first few years before pippen.   Interesting though.

  4. Fact:  If "Yahoo Sucks" agrees with you, you must be wrong.

EDIT:  It wasn't meant as an attack on you MB.  I agree with some of what you say, but I think MJ's record speaks for itself.

  5. if kobe had been in jordans era, he would have trouble scoring 20 points.  the defense would clog him and abuse him, and kobe wouldnt be able to handle the physical defense.  reason why phil jackson said that jordan would average 45 points a game with the rules today, which favors the guards.

its ridiculous when tony parker is one of the players with the most points in the paint.

yea jordans early playoff berths dont mean jack since he didn win anything, and his 2nd year he only played in like 18 games or something but played great against the celtics in the playoffs.

  6. Maybe

  7. It's so easy to make such a conclusion.  So how do you explain the fact that the Hawks was a horrible team from the standpoint of their regular season and yet they played Boston to 7 games while the Lakers dominated the Western Conference and yet thouroughly got dominated by the Celtics?  Just because the win records are less doesn't mean they are weak.

In conclusion I don't buy your theory because that's all it really is a "Theory".

How do you know Kobe with Jordan's team was going to beat anyone?  They might get sweep with a margin of 50 points.

  8. you're probably right mr. basketball...  if jordan had the luxury of riding the coattail of one of the best centers of all time during his first few years, you wouldn't be having this conversation...  all you jordan haters complain how week the eastern conference was, fail to realize that the dynasty built boston team and the detroit bad boys mj faced in the playoffs would demolish any western conference team today...  kobe's lakers today wouldn't stand a chance against any of those two teams and would end up with the same fate the bulls had in the playoffs... the only difference is, if the current lakers team were in the eastern conference during mj's time, they wouldn't even make it to the finals...  so stop chugging yourself under a gallon of mj hatorade and start appreciating what the man has done for the sport of basketball... you should change your nick to mr. i don't know basketball...
