  1. Yes - it was called lake


  2. Lake Victoria or Victoria Nyanza (also known as Ukerewe and Nalubaale)

  3. The African people have always known the lake as either Ukerewe or Nalubaale

    but, of course, since the lake is in Africa, the british didn't pay any attention to their wishes in the matter (manifest destiny and all that rot).
