Did Leonardo have any difficulties creating the Mona Lisa?

Think about the powers of the church in the renaissance, limitaions of technology/materials.

Please help me, i can't find information any where and i need it for an assessment..

He had to keep asking her (the model) not to smile too broadly.

I don't know much about the church (and i never want to) but I don't think they would have limitations on such a tame painting. As for tech/materials he had to mix his own paint and stuggle with the outside lighting and the candle lighting.
