Did Lionel Messi deserve the Fifa Ballon d’Or ?
Lionel Messi has claimed the world’s best player award, yet again and raised a lot of questions. Recently, Lionel Messi won the Fifa Ballon d’Or award for the second consecutive time and enhanced his already undisputed reputation
in the world of football. There is absolutely no doubt about how fantastic the Argentinean plays but there are various questions being raised regarding the award given to him ahead of his team-mates Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez.
Although, Messi received 22.65 percent of votes casted by the coaches and captains of national teams, he was rather surpirsed to receive the award. “I didn’t expect to win it today,” Messi said. “Already it’s a source of happiness
to be here with my friends and even more to win it.”
Although, there is absolutely no doubt about Lionel Messi's ability as a player, however, the media is posing questions whether Messi truely deserved the award ahead of his Barcelona teammates Iniesta and Xavi. Andres Iniesta and
Xavi Hernandez both are a key strategic assets to Barcelona and Spain, and were said to have been disappointed upon not receiving the title.
World player of the year, Lionel Messi is going strong in the 2010/2011 season and has plenty of achievements in his pocket from the last season as well. He has been the most prolific scorer for his club, and considering he's not
the central striker, that's a feat in its own.
On the other hand, one cannot deny the contribution of Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta in the Barcelona side as well as the Spain International Squad. Xavi has done wonders for the Barcelona. With his exceptional passing skills
and magical assists, he is considered to be the heart beat of Barca. It might also be safe to say that without him Spain might not have won the World Cup last year. The 30 year old midfielder, therefore, would have been humbled to receive the-player-of-the-year
title, if anything, the title would be a sign of everyone acknowledging his true contribution to the world of football.
One has to remember the final goal of Spain in the finals of the world cup in 2010, to remember all the glorious performances of this Barcelona midfielder. Iniesta, although a calm player on the field, can prove to be a lethal
weapon against any side, at any time. The 'magician' was Xavi's partner in crime in most of their matches during http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011’s World Cup tour as well as behind Barcelona’s brilliance on the field.
Although, there were many questions raised by the media but the real question is “Did http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 deserve the title awarded to him?” Without a single pause, the answer is YES! The 23 year old Argentinean scored 58 goals and countless
assists for the club that won the Spanish title. He has been hailed 'the best player in the world' by managers including Arsenal's Arsene Wenger. Being the highest scorer in a season and scoring a staggering 60 goals in 2010 both for his club, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841
is by no means a trivial feat. His ability and his achievements truly justify the award being handed to him.
However, as it stands, many in the world of football see three winners. Coming from the same club, all three nominees are true heroes of the footballing world, who have given so much to the world of football. One might not stop
arguing over who should have have gotten the award, but the truth is, all three were equally deserving and in the end, the best one out of them won. So, did Messi deserve the Fifa Ballon d’Or ? Absolutely.
