    It was a goal of sheer beauty – a work of art. Indeed, it was voted the Fifa World Cup Goal of the Century in 2002 and deservedly so. The diminutive but stocky Argentinean started the move in his own half, turning expertly away from a couple of challenges before embarking on a mazy run through to Peter Shilton’s goal. Having beaten five or six players already, Maradona then beat the goalkeeper to rub further salt into English wounds and slot the ball into the empty net from an acute angle.
