I know this question sounds dumb, and I'm basically 100% sure she didn't, but my friend is convinced he's descended from her via a secret child that was given up for adoption during the Reign of Terror. I've tried to tell him its bogus...maybe some other opinions will help?

  1. Marie Antoinette had four children, and adopted three, Armand, Ernestine and Zoe.

Here's information on the adopted children:

There were, however, rumours flying about Marie Antoinette's husband, Louis XVI, being encouraged to impregnate a serving girl.  The legend says, " The maid, who was a married woman, gave birth to a daughter named Marie-Philippine Lambriquet. Marie-Antoinette eventually adopted the girl and renamed her "Ernestine" after a character in one of her favorite novels. Ernestine and Madame Royale [Louis' and Marie Antoinette's eldest daughter] were educated together."

There was also rumour about Madame Royale: "while Madame Royale was in prison, she was raped and impregnated. She was sent off to Germany to a small town where she was made to wear a green veil and given the name of "Sophie Batta," also known as "The Dark Countess."

  2. Before she had children, she adopted a little boy from a poor family named Jacques. She called him Armand. He later joined the French Revolution and was killed.

She also adopted a daughter of servants, Ernestine, as well as three orphaned girls. During the Revolution, Ernestine was taken out of the country, and the orphan girls joined family in the country.

  3. she only had four kids

  4. Yeah, it's just that they have lost weight and nobody recognizes them.

  5. Marie Antoinette only had 4 children...tell your friend he/she has a very over active imagination...

    Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte in 1778, Louis-Joseph in 1781, Louis-Charles in 1785, and Sophie-Béatrix in 1786.
