Did McCain luck out in that Bush could not attend the convention?

Bush has an 80% approval rating amongst RNC delegates, but only 20% amongst the public at large. Think of all those missed photo ops of McCain and Bush that will never make it into the Obama commercials.

I believe Bush decided not to attend the RNC because of the hurricanes we are having lately.  He wanted to make sure his country is safe.

He will not attend but he will still speak and endorse him. Still worse.

Both Bush and McCain know the damage it will do, the more they are seen together.  They are going to avoid each other like the plague, for as long as they can.  They call that "good" politics, I call it dishonest.
