Did Murray lose because he tried too hard?

Yep Rafa played superbly but I feel Andy was not in control of his own game so in a way beat himself, the break that gave Raf the 2nd set was a good example, was Raf's shot going out but Andy HAD to try to make a shot out of it, it was going into the atmosphere!

  1. murray was basically anihilated by Nadal

  2. I think that he was tired, but Nadal was just to strong for him - he needs to go away and learn from his experiences of this tournament :)

  3. No,he was outclassed.

  4. Murray lost because quite simply he is not good enough to beat a player like Nadal

  5. haha yeah ofcourse thats why he lost :( poor murray :(

Dam that Rafa he played **** yet still won in easy straight sets lmao !

  6. no he lost because he was not as good as Nadal.................. end of.

  7. cuz hes no good. hes a younger version of tim henman!

  8. No, Murray at his best doesn't come close to Nadal at his best...end of story.

  9. he lost because hes not used to playing at such a high level. i know that hes at a high level already but the top 3 guys at the moment are really top notch

  10. Murray was playing with his "tank on empty". You have to bring your big guns to fight Nadal !!!!!

  11. I think in a way Murray did try too hard; if you watch the match you can see Andy is purposefully putting on too much topspin, like Nadal does, in an attempt to counter Nadal's hitting. Yet because of his sudden change in tactics he couldnt control most of his shots because he just wasnt used to the movement and probably the grip.

Then in the end of the second and through the third when he started playing flatter hits, like his usual game, it was too late because Rafa was already rolling and could deal with flat strokes as he did with Youzhny and many other players throughout the championships.

In general, I think the loss came from too many changes in his gameplan and simply the fact he was playing a watertight and bulletproof Nadal.

  12. murray is inexperienced and was obviously very nervous. i think that he can get further in the future if he prepares himself mentally. he went in thinking that he was going to lose. he is not ready to win yet by any means but i think that he will get stronger and stronger. he has great skills he just needs the confidence and stamina.

  13. No - it is obvious that Nadal is a level or even 2 levels above Murray. But Murray said that he is still not at his best yet and that will be another year or two!

Imagine Murray then....?  He will definitely be one of the world's best

  14. I don't think trying too hard was the reason.  Murray lost because he couldn't break Nadal's serve, nor did he produce the same level of play that he showed in the second half of his 4th round match against Gasquet.  It could have been nerves too, but against Nadal right now the way he's been playing, Murray really had to bring his "A" game and nothing less if he were to have a shot, which just wasn't the case unfortunately.

  15. I agree in a way with what you say. But Rafael was truly lethal today. So regardless of how hard Murray tried or did not try, he may not have had a chance. Murray would have had a chance only if Rafael was so so or real bad.

  16. I agree with what your saying, but thats just the way Murray plays, isnt it? Thats why the country loves him now: he plays for every point, no matter whether he's on his break point or 40-0 down. It's just his game. But, I do see your point :)

  17. No from the little i saw, he was outclassed, outplayed, he hasn't got the armoury to defeat Nadal and certainly not Federer. Whether he ever will time will tell.

  18. yeh murray was surprised at how well nadal was playing and as a result got tight, sluggish with his movement and felt the pressure at that was because nadal was playing at a higher level to murray. And the fact was murray's groudstrokes were not strong or powerful enuf to hit clean winners with. And his serving if murray is going to win grand slams his serve seriously needs to improve coz against players like nadal you have to be perfect in all depts

  19. He didn't try at all.  Better yet Nadal didn't give him a chance to try.  He was handcuffed from the moment he went on the court.  That's what Nadal does to his opponents he take away their game plan and leave them handicapped thorough the game by the time they realize what's happening the game is over.

  20. He lost because he was completely outplayed by a better opponent. He still has a lot to learn and will improve by playing better players and learning from his mistakes.

  21. The difference is Federer and Nadal are champions, the other players just good players.

until Murray has his break through, he will not be able to handle Federer or Nadal in a major.  Djokovic shows that he could.

  22. I'd love to agree with you, but basically I think he lost because Nadal is the better player.  I think he will learn from that match, and maybe next year he'll have a better chance.  If he avoids injury, and his ranking is up next year, he may have an easier draw.

  23. he lost because he knew he couldnt beat rafael nadal. he lost because he hasnt got the fire that drives great players like jimmy connors. jimmy used to win on sheer guts. murray hasnt got that. i saw defeat in his face very early in the match. thats the  way british people are. no spirit. no fire.

  24. I don't think Murray had much of a chance at beating Nadal today.  Rafa is just that much better right now.  However, I think it would have been a much closer match had Murray not been exhausted.

Murray played an amazing 5-setter against Gasquet only 2 days prior, and was coming off another 5 setter.  Although these are top athletes, it still takes time to recover after so much tennis.

Also, even though Nadal was the favorite to win, the local pressure to bring winning tennis back to England is a lot to take and still maintain the necessary mental game.

Murray is not yet ready to beat Nadal, but I think had Murray been a bit more rested, he would have taken Nadal to a tie-break or two, and maybe even taken a set.

  25. I need to ask you something completely different. You seem like a fan of Aisleyne and thats why I need to know Where I can find a photo of Aisleyne posing for More Magazine. The photo has Aisleyne wearing a black leather jacket and black sungasses. And this was more magazine. And I havent been able to find it ever since.

  26. Murray lost because he got completely outplayed. Murray would not have won even if he played his best tennis, because Nadal is on another level. Murray had a good run though, and he has a lot to look forward to.

Edit: He is definitely better than Tim Henman. Murray has a real shot at winning a slam in the near future.

  27. The crowd was flat and so was Murray. Why are we bothering with all this quarter final / semi final nonsense? Federer vs Nadal is what we all want.

  28. unforuently they are in a totally different calibre... murray is not in the same league as rafa...... and he is not consistent enough to beat him.. nor does he have enough in his repotoire to beat him..

sorry but nadal is just better

and murray being under so much pressure did not help
