Question:

Did My Digital Camera Die?

I have a Canon Power Shot A60 digital camera, which is a few years old. Recently at a family gathering we wanted to take some pictures, and the screen which is supposed to show you what the camera is pointing at was just black. It still displays things, and you can get into all the menus, but it's almost as if the camera just went blind.

When I try to take a picture with it, the picture is just a black screen. I can go into the memory and view all blank pictures I have taken. The memory card is NOT full, and there are older pictures on the memory card (that are not just "blank") that I can view using the camera.

What is wrong with my camera and how do I fix it??

thanks for reading... I'm baffled by this

  1. well I have never heard of that before....maybe you should take it to a camera reapair store or something and see what they have to say....if anything just get a new camera....

  2. HI, yes i work in the tech support area for a electronics co, and it does sound like your camera will require service.  The LCD displays really shows you what the CCD (internal chip that takes pics) is seeing.  So since the CCD is not working correctly, then you get a black screen when taking pictures but CAN see the menu items.

  3. Yeah, it's dead. Let it go.

  4. This sounds like a defective CCD imager.  BUT, lucky you, Canon will fix this for you for free under an advisory recall for your model camera.  This includes free shipping both ways (I'm not kidding).  This is regardless of your camera's warranty status.  Please check the following two links for more info:
