Did Nadal or Federer ever quit a game because of an injury or illness?

It seems so many people just throw in the towel. Justin Henin quit against Mauresmo (man, that would p**s me off if I had tickets to that), and Davydenko's questionable quitting just before Monte Carlo, and then Djoko's famous sore throat... pooooor baby.

Am I wrong? It seems the true the champions never quit. The real athletes who fight like dogs, and go the distance, like Agassi, and the rest. Do the 2 top guys ever quit?

  1. Roger Federer never retired from a match in his professional career. Nadal retired 4 times during his professional career.

  2. OMG...did you watch Rafa play on hard courts with horrible tendonitis (hence the wrapped knees now)....practically crippled with pain...and finished.  What a champion!

  3. All players 'quit' as you say. Just google nadal retires or federer retires and you will see them. Quit trying to make Nadal and Federer out as Gods, because they are not.

I would post links, but my account gets screwy when I do that

August 16th, 2007- Rafael Nadal retired in his match against Juan Monaco, trailing 6-7(5) 0-2, with arm cramps and dizziness.

And I'm not just a Nole fan, I'm a TENNIS fan

  4. i agree with betty.. nadal quits only to stop bigger injuries... nadal did not quit in second round in rome because he know he needs to defend the title especially having pressure only 4 weeks clay season.. vamos nadal! i hope he wins hamburg and french!!!

  5. Betty is right. Federer NEVER quit (aka retired). and also James Blake never ever quit.  My fave, Andre Agassi, probaby never quit, but I'll have to check that. I always admire him for playing even with pain shooting up and down his spine.
