Faldo certainly made tactical errors, making the decision on the final day to hold his best players back - sadly, as it turned out, until a point at which their influence was irrelevant, the Cup already lost. Of course, all the guile and savoir-faire in the world won't help if the players come up short on the fairways, but the general feeling is that in 2008, the Cup was lost by captain Faldo's poor leadership and incompetent decision-making.
