I know this fight is extremely old, but I was just thinking. Because when I was watching this fight with my dad and his friends, I remember my dad mentioning something about Oscar and his big plan for Golden Boy Promotions. Then when De La Hoya fell, he got really quiet, because he thought he was going to get up.

Then he became really upset and started to talk louder and louder saying something about " Thats just bullsh!t, Oscar is going to take a dive just so that he can promote Hopkins with Golden Boy Promotions and he will fight for him " or something like that.

All I'm really sure is that he mentioned Oscar taking a dive on purpose, to help Golden Boy Promotions.

He said the same thing for the Mayweather - Oscar fight, he said Mayweather made the fight really close on purpose so that there would be a rematch for more money. Is that true as well?

Here is teh DLH - Hopkins fight

  1. The Golden Boy didn't take a dive in either of those fights. In the Hopkins fight, he got hit square in the liver. Getting hit hard in the liver puts you into shock and there is almost nothing you can do to get up. That's why you see Oscar rolling around, grimacing as if he is in excruciating pain.

It is also doubtful that either fighter made the Mayweather/de la Hoya fight close on purpose to have a rematch. Mayweather fought that fight the same way he fights all his fights. Fights that he has fought against top competitors are rarely blowouts.

  2. No, I don't believe De La Hoya took a dive. You could really tell the difference in height and weight. Hopkins looked SO MUCH bigger than De La  Hoya. Don't underestimate the body shots.

No, I don't believe that Mayweather made the fight close so that there will be a rematch. They would have made the fight a lot more interesting with a lot more action, instead of making it just a close fight.
